"INCIDENT AT ROSWELL"
review of Australia video release
by Bill Chalker
The Viacom Films movie "ROSWELL" will be released in Australia on February
9th, 1995, as a video from First Release Home Entertainment. First Release
have given it the name "Incident at Roswell".
I previewed the video on 10th January, and since then watched it a number of
times. This review is intended for Australian audiences. No doubt many US
Paranet users will have seen it in its Showtime cable channel showings.
Watching it I had one dissappointment. Namely that this film did not get a
cinema release in either the US or Australia. I found it to be entertaining as a film and fascinating as an account of the Roswell saga. While there
are the to be expected cinematic embellishments I was often intrigued by
the many apparent accurate representations of key elements in the events
that have also been the subject of 4 books, numerous research articles,
documentary programmes and other media offerings.
The film serves its subject matter well, casting the whole affair in a Oliver
Stone "JFK" style thriller. Fact is blended with a little speculation and
some woven fictional elements.
The film, directed by Jeremy Kagan ("The Journey of Natty Gann",
"The Chosen", "The Big Fix", "Heroes" and "The Sting II") and with
co-executive producer Paul Davids, is based on the Roswell scenario described
in the 1991 Avon book "UFO Crash at Roswell" by Kevin D. Randle and
Donald R. Schmitt.
